Poole Pottery

Poole Art Pottery

The history of Poole pottery covers a wide span of time from the late 1850's through to the present day. Originally an architectural pottery making tiles it developed under Jesse, Owen and Charles Carter into a well established company making domestic pottery. Known as Carter Stabler and Adams from 1921 they revolutionised the pottery with fresh designs developed by Truda Adams reflecting the growing taste for art deco and proving that there was a place in the market for contemporary styling - a feature that has continued to the present day. The vast range of designs and styles produced over the 150 years are all keenly collected, but the output from the 1920's and 30's is often the most sought after. However there is a growing interest in the 'freeform' range of the 1950's with its bold abstraction and flowing shapes, and it is certainly likely that Poole pottery bought from shops today will acquire its own place in collecting in the future.
